"Emerging Technologies and their Impact: Is it CyQuest or SyQuest?", By Danille M. Font, M.F.A.
Danille's article and current theoretical and fine art work addresses the political economy of new media and Internet business expansion in Europe and the United States. The article examines online and magazine advertising images and examines the semiotics of marketing strategies fueled by new media technology. Semiotics is a theory of signs and symbols that deals with their function in languages. Her article shows how the German company, CyQuest appropriated the logo of the U.S. company, SyQuest and the story behind this, as well as SyQuest's struggle to survive a buy-out by Iomega Corporation (the U.S. makers of Iomega Zip drives and cartridges). Her article been translated in Spanish, German and English.
